I've always been fascinated by cases of art forgery. I recently read an amazing book on one of the most elaborate art cons of all time: Provenance by Laney Salisbury and Aly Sujo. It tells the true story of how hundreds of forged paintings (some of which are still in circulation) were legitimized through the methodical tampering of the British art world's archives. The book reads like a crime novel, complete with a crafty villain, fearful accomplices, and determined detectives.
